What is a coco coir grow bag?

A coco grow bag is a sleeved substrate unit made with cocopeat, also called coir pith, and graded coconut husk chips where specified. Growers also use the terms coir slab and coco slab. The sleeve supports the media in a gutter or on a growing support. It is different from an empty fabric grow bag filled on site.

Choose the format around your crop

Use the tomato, cucumber, capsicum and bell pepper and strawberry pages to explore dimensions and opening layouts. Agree expanded length, width and height separately from compressed shipping dimensions. Length × width × height in centimetres, divided by 1,000, gives nominal geometric litres; it does not establish measured usable substrate volume.

Specify the media inside

Particle size, fines and fibre content affect how the substrate behaves. Agree the physical grade alongside washing or buffering, EC limits and the test method. A blend ratio alone is not a full specification. Compare washed, low EC and buffered coco coir grades and request a sample for evaluation in your growing system.

Planting openings, drainage and propagation

Give planting-hole size and spacing, propagation-cube dimensions, and drainage position in the same drawing. Planting and drainage openings serve different purposes. Check the interface with propagation cubes and nursery formats, and use the growbag sizes and drainage guide before approving a layout.

Prepare an enquiry

Send the crop, expanded dimensions, substrate grade, quantity, destination and drawing to the sales team. Include film colour and any private-label packaging requirements. Packing, available customisation, order quantity and delivery timing are confirmed in the quotation. For preparation, read how to hydrate compressed coir.

Frequently asked questions

Are low EC grow bags always buffered?

No. Low EC is a measured result, while buffering is a treatment. Specify both the EC method and buffering status.

Can a grow bag be chosen by its size alone?

No. The media grade, irrigation system, drainage and propagation format also need to match the crop and layout.
