Can I screen cocopeat myself before filling containers?

Screening changes the product you started with. Decide which fraction is being removed and how the remaining medium will be evaluated.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Removing fibres, chips or fines changes particle distribution and usable yield. The resulting material may no longer behave like the original tested grade.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Record the screen opening and which fraction is retained.
  2. Compare yield and physical appearance before and after screening.
  3. Trial the retained material in the intended container rather than relying on appearance.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

Why are you screening?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Remove an unsuitable coarse fraction

Check whether a supplier grade better matches the application. Evaluate the screened result as a new material.

Remove dust or fines

Review whether the process is consistent and whether the retained mix still wets evenly.

Remove suspected contamination

Stop and identify the contamination. Screening alone does not establish that material is safe or suitable to use.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Keep labelled samples of the original, retained and discarded fractions for comparison.

Keep in mind

Do not carry the original physical-test claims over to a newly screened blend without validation.
