How should melon fruit be supported in a coir system?

Plan fruit support around the cultivar and trellising method before fruit becomes heavy. The growing bag is not designed to carry hanging fruit loads.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Coir roots anchor the plant, while a separate support structure must safely carry the canopy and fruit.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Check the trellis design and load-bearing points.
  2. Inspect support materials for abrasion, constriction and moisture trapping.
  3. Consider harvest access as fruit enlarges.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

Which support issue appears?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Fruit pulls the vine downward

Review an appropriate sling or support method with the crop adviser.

Support rubs fruit

Adjust material and contact points before injury develops.

Structure carries an unknown load

Have its suitability assessed before adding more fruit or supports.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Inspect supports as fruit size increases, not only when first installed.

Keep in mind

Do not suspend fruit from irrigation tubing or fragile growbag film.
