What should I check when establishing grafted roses in coir?

Follow the nursery’s instructions for the supplied rose type and rootstock. Grafted and own-root plants should not be assumed to require identical handling.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Coir establishment needs good contact with the original roots while preserving the intended graft position.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Identify the graft, rootstock and original root-ball condition.
  2. Check planting depth and support against supplier instructions.
  3. Monitor new growth and root-zone condition during establishment.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What is uncertain?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Plant identity or graft position

Resolve the nursery specification before large-scale planting.

Uneven establishment

Compare root-ball condition, handling and delivery between plants.

Shoots arise below the graft

Ask the nursery how to identify and manage rootstock growth.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Keep plant-lot and substrate-batch records together during the establishment trial.

Keep in mind

Do not remove unfamiliar shoots until their origin has been identified.
