How does bench slope affect watering cocopeat bags?

Check delivery and drainage separately when a bench is uneven.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Elevation influences hydraulic pressure and where drainage collects around coir containers.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Map the highest and lowest parts of the bench.
  2. Compare emitter output and post-irrigation drainage at both ends.
  3. Check that collection gutters do not back up against bag outlets.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

Where does water accumulate?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

In the drainage gutter

Review gutter fall, obstructions and outlet capacity.

Inside low bags

Compare support level and emitter after-drip before changing the medium.

No pooling but output differs

Ask the irrigation designer to assess elevation-related pressure differences.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Correct the physical layout and repeat the same-location observations.

Keep in mind

A sloping drainage gutter does not prove that every growing bag is level or freely drained.
