How should I assess bench loading with wet coco growbags?

Plan around the complete loaded system, including wet media, plants and equipment. A dry substrate weight is not a structural load assessment.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Cocopeat gains mass when hydrated, and the support must accommodate its working condition and distribution.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Obtain the bench manufacturer’s load and installation specifications.
  2. Include containers, retained water, mature crop support and attached equipment.
  3. Inspect corrosion, missing braces and uneven support before loading.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What information is missing?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Only dry bag weights are known

Measure representative working weights and seek a structural assessment where needed.

Bench rating is unknown

Ask the manufacturer or a qualified professional before increasing the load.

Load is concentrated in one area

Review distribution as well as total weight; local overloading can matter even when the total seems acceptable.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Record the approved loading arrangement and keep it available to the growing team.

Keep in mind

Do not infer a safe load from how a bench looks or from past use with a lighter crop.
