THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

A faulty instrument can make a stable coir system appear to have a nutrient problem.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Use an in-date conductivity standard
  2. Follow the meter's temperature and calibration instructions
  3. Rinse between samples and avoid contaminating standards

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What does the check show?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Standard reads incorrectly

Calibrate or service the instrument before testing the crop.

Readings drift in one sample

Allow equilibration and inspect the probe condition.

Two meters disagree

Compare both in the same fresh standard and units.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Record calibration date and standard value beside crop readings.

Keep in mind

Do not calibrate with an assumed tap-water EC.
