Coir & preparation · WITH COCOA

Why do coir plugs fall apart when removed from trays?

Check root development, moisture and extraction technique together. A plug that crumbles is not automatically evidence of poor coir.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Roots bind the media, while tray geometry and handling affect how the plug releases.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Inspect root coverage around and beneath representative plugs.
  2. Compare release when plugs are at their usual handling moisture.
  3. Check tray damage and the direction of extraction force.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What fails first?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Roots do not bind the plug

Review readiness for transplant and the nursery growth programme.

Plug sticks to the tray

Inspect tray condition and use the specified extraction method.

Plug crushes during handling

Train handling support and reassess moisture at the working stage.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Compare breakage rates using a small, consistent extraction trial.

Keep in mind

Do not compact fresh coir excessively merely to create a firm plug.
