How should cocopeat mixing equipment be cleaned between batches?

Use a documented cleaning process appropriate to the equipment and crop risk. Visible residues can carry material from the previous batch into the next.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Mixers, scoops and filling lines contact a large amount of coir, making them important control points for contamination and accidental ingredient carryover.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Inspect corners, seams and discharge points for retained material.
  2. Identify what the previous batch contained and whether it had a disease concern.
  3. Follow equipment-compatible cleaning and any approved disinfection instructions.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What residue remains?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Loose dry material

Remove it using the site’s appropriate dust-controlled cleaning method.

Wet material in inaccessible areas

Review access and dismantling requirements with the equipment provider.

Residue from a suspect crop

Escalate to the hygiene manager before processing clean material on the same line.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Record cleaning completion and inspect the first output before releasing the next batch.

Keep in mind

Do not assume spraying disinfectant over organic debris completes cleaning.
