Why do edge-row plants grow differently in the same cocopeat?

Use the location pattern to guide your checks. Edge rows may experience different exposure and working conditions from central rows.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Identical media do not create identical growing environments when light, airflow, temperature or support differ across the greenhouse.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Compare edge and centre conditions at the same time.
  2. Check whether handling, foot traffic or bench support differs along the edge.
  3. Inspect roots and water delivery to avoid assuming the cause is purely climatic.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

Which difference is most evident?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

More sunlight or wind exposure

Review the local climate and shading arrangement before changing all rows.

Different support or drainage

Correct the physical layout issue and compare subsequent plant response.

No clear difference found

Collect paired records and samples from edge and centre plants for a more structured assessment.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Map row position alongside crop performance instead of averaging the whole greenhouse.

Keep in mind

Do not reject a whole substrate batch based only on plants in one exposed position.
