How can I avoid unit errors when comparing coir reports?

Write the unit beside every number before transferring laboratory data into a spreadsheet.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Coir reports may use different mass, volume and extraction bases; matching chemical names does not make the numbers directly comparable.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Check whether results refer to an extract, dry material or another stated basis.
  2. Record any dilution factor and whether it has already been applied.
  3. Ask the laboratory to explain conversions rather than applying an assumed multiplier.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

Where does the mismatch occur?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Different units

Request the laboratory-supported conversion and preserve the original readings.

Different sample basis

Compare like-for-like testing instead of treating the difference as a simple unit change.

Unclear dilution

Ask for the calculation worksheet showing the original reading and final reporting factor.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Keep an original-value column and a clearly documented comparison column.

Keep in mind

Do not apply a dilution factor twice or convert between extraction methods by simple arithmetic.
