Can cocopeat bags touch greenhouse heating pipes?

Check the installation design before allowing direct contact. Local heat near a pipe can differ greatly from the average greenhouse air temperature.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

A small contact area can create an uneven root-zone environment and may also affect the container material.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Inspect actual clearance along the full bag length.
  2. Measure representative root-zone conditions near and away from the pipe.
  3. Check the heating and bag manufacturers’ installation guidance.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What is the contact pattern?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Only one bag touches

Correct its positioning safely and compare the plant with neighbouring bags.

Many bags rest against pipes

Review the layout with the system designer before the next heating cycle.

No contact but roots are unusually warm

Investigate nearby radiant heat and exposure rather than focusing only on direct touching.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Record pipe clearance and local temperatures as part of the installation review.

Keep in mind

Do not rely on a distant air sensor to rule out a local root-zone hotspot.
