How can I assess variation within a cocopeat batch?

Look at the distribution of results rather than one attractive average.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Variation in compressed coir units can affect preparation, filling and consistency across a growing area.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Select units from different identified parts of the shipment.
  2. Use the same hydration, measurement and test procedure for each unit.
  3. Record individual results and investigate outliers before combining them into an average.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What pattern appears?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

One unusual unit

Check the unit identification and repeat its measurement to rule out a handling error.

A cluster of unusual units

Map their pallet or lot position and discuss that group with the supplier.

Wide variation throughout

Review the agreed tolerance and request a documented investigation using comparable methods.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Keep a unit-by-unit record with photographs and methods attached.

Keep in mind

Do not hide a problematic subgroup inside a whole-shipment average.
