Roots & watering · WITH DIGBY

Does a taller pot change how cocopeat behaves?

Compare the complete container geometry, not just its volume. Two containers holding the same litres can present roots with different moisture conditions.

THE COCOPEAT CONNECTION

Why the root zone matters

Height, width and outlet position influence the distribution of water and air within a substrate. A grade selected for one shape may need reassessment in another.

01 / OBSERVE

Three checks before you change anything

  1. Record actual filled height, width and working volume.
  2. Compare moisture at several depths after similar irrigation.
  3. Observe root distribution and plant stability in both formats.

02 / NARROW IT DOWN

What is changing?

Choose the closest observation for a suggested next check.

Same litres, taller container

Run a side-by-side trial and inspect the vertical moisture profile before transferring the old schedule.

Same footprint, shallower container

Pay particular attention to how much of the root zone remains wet. Verify outlets and filling consistency.

Shape and grade both change

Separate the changes in a trial where possible so you can identify which affects crop response.

03 / TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Leave with something useful

Choose a container-and-medium combination using observed rooting and moisture behaviour.

Keep in mind

A water-holding figure from one test container is not a guarantee for every pot shape.
